Curling the fringe... Victorian style

One thing that was important this term was bold hair, one technique we learnt was how to curl the fringe into one big wave because it was a common look during the Victorian period.

Start by brushing the hair through so that it is smooth.

Take a small section of hair in front of each of the ears.

Section the hair so it is in a middle parting.

Then begin to curl the hair into to barrel curls, start at the centre of the head and work down and outwards. Make sure the curls roll under.

When curling the hair you want to work the tongs close to the scalp. So each time you wrap the hair around the tongs you want to pull the tongs tight to the scalp.

Each time you do a barrel curl use a plain sliding pin to clip the hair into place.

Once you have done both sides go back to the first barrel curl and start taking the pins out.

Then use a paddle brush to comb out the curls so there is a deep wave left.

Spray the hair with a high shine spray as it will give the look a better look.

Then use a pintail comb to slightly backcomb the hair but not from the root, just the middle section of the hair.

You will be left with a strong Victorian wave with the fringe.
